The Thing With Awesomeness
Posted on Jan 27th 2010 | 2comments
Finally, the Apple Tablet would be unveiled today amidst high expectations and after loads of rumors. In fact, the expectations are so high that the Apple Tablet should nothing be less than awesome.
The thing with awesomeness is that you just can’t relax after you have amazed people by your work. Words like “satisfactory” or “good” should cease to exist in your dictionary after you have come up with something awesome. Your upcoming projects should only be more awesome and nothing less than that. It is at this point that all your skills and creativity are put to acid test. And the only way to pass this test is by enhancing your skills. Your existing skills will only give you a polished version of your previous product and not an awesome product. People will expect awesomeness in your products to grow exponentially rather than linearly. The very reason that I love Apple products is that they are always much more awesome than their predecessors. And, believe me; it’s extremely tough to achieve this feat. However, this should be second nature to somebody as devoted and passionate as Steve Jobs.
"You have to perform at a consistently higher level than others. That's the mark of a true professional." - Joe Paterno
After going through various success stories, I've learned about a few factors which can help you in creating an awesome product. I would like to share them with you:
Take your time
Do not rush into execution of your idea. Evaluate it properly and look at it from different angles. Different people will have different views about your project and you certainly can’t make everybody happy, but still analyzing your idea properly will increase the odds of coming up with a successful product. (Don’t overdo it!)
Never Compromise
This is somewhat related to the previous point. There is no alternative to awesomeness and hence there should be none when you’re executing your ideas. For example, if you can’t find a suitable jQuery plugin for your application, then go ahead and create one. This will surely take time and a lot more efforts, but the end result would be certainly more rewarding.
Don’t give up
You will certainly face some failures if you will not compromise with your idea. But the key to success is perseverance. It’s much better to fail at various stages while working on your idea rather than compromising with your idea. Remember that your upcoming products can’t be ordinary after you have created an awesome product.
With your efforts, you can reach the Numero Uno positon. However, what matters is that how long you can remain at that position.
